Welcome at Bremerhaven, the "home" of the Shadows!

The first settlement of Bremerhaven took place probably before 2000 years in the northeast area. In 1275 Lehe which is totay an local part of Bremerhaven was mentioned for the first time. Located between the two rivers Geeste and Weser, there was developed a port and an envelope place, which were centruy-long politically hot desired. Thus, Lehe belonged in 17. Century occasionally to the ore diocese Bremen, changed then into Shedish territory, fell breifly under Danish occupation and belonged from 1719 to the Kinddom of Hannover. From 1819-1821 the free Hanseatic city of Bremen created the city of Bremerhaven in the north area. In competition Hannover established the port place Geestemünde from 1834-1847 in the southern area. While Bremerhaven was experienced the upswing by american trade and mass emigrations to America (by the "Norddeutsche Lloyd", who built Passenger liner ports and hight-speed steamers like the "Bremen" and the "United States"), in Geestemünde dook and harbor facilities were built, which made the place soon the industrial site for wood, rice and petroleum. In 2. Word War the inner city area was nearly destroyed. After the war the Americans explainde Bremerhaven as their supply port, so that the city became an American enclave in British occupied Northern Germany. In 1947 the city was finally folded up and integrated as Bremerhaven into the Federal Republic of Bremen.
